CURRICULUM

Kids' Cabaret

Summer Camp – Curriculum and Information

In the Kids' Cabaret Summer Camp for children and teenagers, students are taught a variety of different skills in a safe and caring environment. The program runs five days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for three weeks, and culminates in a final performance for family & friends. Students spend the day in the studios and are involved in a wide range of classes specifically designed to stimulate their creativity and imagination. A summary of each of the classes is listed below.

Daily curriculum:

  • Vocal technique - Vocal warm-ups, proper breathing, creating a beautiful tone, phrasing, style, blending, and harmony. They will also learn how to make a personal connection to their music and to the audience - how to really perform a song, not just sing it.

  • Dance class - teaching students how to carry themselves and move with confidence on stage, developing self-awareness and stage presence.  Choreography for individual and group numbers is also developed in class.

  • Journaling - The beginnings of the creative process in any performance endeavor, journaling helps students tap into their own inner resources of thoughts, feelings, and desires to develop what they want to say about themselves and the world around them.  We then help them determine how they want to communicate this to the audience in their performance.
Dance class
  • Individual attention to performance material - Students will be exposed to various techniques aimed at honing their singing, acting, storytelling, and movement techniques, and putting it all together to develop their performance. They will learn how to read music, memorize lyrics, mark stage directions, use a microphone, improvise,  and think on their feet on stage.  Students will develop a strong understanding of the art of cabaret, musical styles, character development, audition techniques, and theater etiquette.
